Connect the X32 to your computer via USB. I think you should be good to go at that point but depends on the software you're controlling, I don't use it with reaper so can't help you with the MIDI part of it. Open the ROUTING menu, select the CARD OUT tab, and select new sound sources for the cards output channels.
Then on the surface press DAW Remote (next to the layer buttons). On the Setup page, Remote tab, you need to enable the button on the left. To control the preamp (or switch phantom) for an input that isn't routed to a channel on the desk you will need to go to the Setup page, preamps tab, and find your physical input there.Īs for the control surface, you can use the DCA faders and the surrounding buttons as a MIDI device also over the USB cable, don't need a separate MIDI interface.
That can still work - on the Routing, Card out tab you can select Card outputs 1-8 be Local 1-8 so now the physical input goes straight to the input on the computer. On the other hand if your Routing page looks like Input 9-16: Card 9-16, Input 17-24: Card 17-24, Input 25-32: Card 25-32 then that means all 32 channels of playback would be patched but now your local inputs don't go anywhere.

For example you have Input 1-8: Card 1-8, Input 9-16: Local 1-8 - then channel 9 on the desk is going to be controlling physical input 1 - to enable phantom just select channel 9 and hit +48V. After some comments in my previous video I have made a followup about how to patch subgroups to the USB/Firewire outputs on the X32. If you want phantom power on a physical input which is on the routing page you can do that from the channel it's assigned to. Phantom power, depends - on the routing page you have Inputs 1-8 which could come from Card 1-8 or Local 1-8.
